2017 01-14 Bodega Bay
-
We found glorious sunny skies when we arrived at Bodega Bay around 1030 am. There was no wind in the Bay. Per usual, our first stop was our harbor seal and sea lion hotspot. The resident pinnipeds were there and some wonderful close looks were had.
Moving out to Bodega Head where State Park volunteer docents were watching (and interpreting) southbound gray whales. The whales were between a half mile and a mile offshore. Two were close to the headlands buoy, and one (yearling?) breached a few times. Other whales spouted.
Heading back from the headlands along the road and just past the marina, several cars were parked along both sides. Folks with cameras, spotting scopes and binoculars were milling around. A young adult bald eagle was atop a telephone pole, seemingly posing. This comes after finding two bald eagles in the back country near our home yesterday. This eagle had been photographed last week and posted to the bird group on Facebook after it chased an osprey and stole its fish. Today was all about getting its picture taken with the nice warm sun on its face and belly.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
