2017 02-02 Payen Rd
-
We took advantage of a break in the light rainfall and took a 1-hour drive up and down Payen Road in Folsom, Sacramento County. The road had a few puddles and was it great condition. Only one other car was seen during the hour. Hills were green and both cattle and horses were grazing together.
Raptors were a bit thin today. At the start we saw a single northern harrier swooping back and forth across the hills and pasture lands, but it never came close enough for photography. Lots of meadow larks hopped out of the grass to perch on the barbed wire fence, and back again. We saw two red-tailed hawks that also kept their distance from us. On the way out a large American kestrel was perched on top of a telephone pole and, at first, looked like it was feeding on something small.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
