It was hot and sunny as we drove the entire length of Meiss Road. Previous trips have been during the winter rainy season. Today things were very brown and dry. There were also far fewer species of wildlife to be seen. On the paved portion we watched a kestrel perched on the highest wires. It moved away with any approach. Later, two red-tailed hawks were photographed circling around with each other. Individual as well as small groups of horned larks perched on the barbed wire and fence posts. An abundance of western meadow larks sang but were very skittish and impossible to photograph.
