2017 08-21 Yolo & Eclipse
-
Suellen and I drove down to one of the burrowing owl sites in Yolo County to take some photographs, watch the eclipse (maxed out at 1017 am), and to observe effects of eclipse on wildlife. Skies were sunny and clear. A light breeze blew across the agricultural fields from the south. It was 72⁰F outside.
We visited 5 burrowing owls. There was a pair in one burrow, and a trio in another…same as we saw on our last trip one week ago. Before, during and after the eclipse there was no real change in owl behavior. Our eclipse had about 80% coverage. This dimmed the ambient light a bit, but it was not dark. You could not see the sun’s corona or stars in the sky.
We finally left and did a spin around the By-Pass.
