2018 01-23 Woodbridge Rd - Lodi
'
It was mostly overcast and foggy as we traversed Woodbridge Road all the way from the freeway to the levee. Our primary targets were sandhill cranes and a reported great horned owl. We found a few red-tailed hawks, loads of geese, several dozen sandhill cranes, and some kestrels. A crop-duster helicopter was working the ag fields, spraying RoundUp. (Evidence for this were several empty cardboard cases labelled "Roundup" near the helicopter re-fueling truck alongside Woodbridge road. I photographed the helicopter making high-arched turns and flushing thousands of migratory geese in adjacent fields. As with our previous trip on December 15, the Isenberg Sandhill crane preserve had no cranes, but further west there were several fields where they were on the ground.
