We drove out to Yolo County to check on the burrowing owls. We were hoping to see some owlets, but we did not. The owls were in pairs and once in a while one of the pair members would fly off a few feet only to return right away to his partner. Some nice photographic opportunities were there are none the less as owls were perched on top of trees, inside tree branches as well as in nice pairs. A very active western kingbird hovered in and out of the wildflowers.
After the owls, we went over to the Yolo Bypass. Only a couple of fields were flooded it but it was a very beautiful day nonetheless. Temps were in the high 60s and low 70s bright sunny sky and a light breeze. There were not many raptors just tons of red wing blackbird’s. Only a few ducks in the pond in this included several pairs that were leading a little duck lips around behind them. All the roads including some of the back roads were open so it was nice to drive down some of these roads that are closed during the wet months.
