A trip to Llano Seco Unit, Sacramento NWR...the long way. Our goal was to drive up and get off Hwy 99 to survey the ag fields and wetlands en route to Llano Seco. This included traveling along South Butte Rd, West Butte Rd, and North Butte Rd. Along West Butte we saw a large herd of mule deer in a deep grove of trees, as we did last year. One open field featured a single soaring ferruginous hawk that deviated from its soaring to do a nice fly-over. The platform at Llano Seco revealed thousands of snow geese, some greater white-fronted geese, and lots of ducks. It is a nice time to visit Llano.
