Months of hot, dry, smoke-filled weather got a break last night when a line of small thunderstorms dropped enough rain on the area to clear things up and cool things down. We decided to look for kites.
Weather at the ByPass was great, and the air never exceeded 72F during the 2 hours we worked our way around the driving loops and side roads.
At least one large female harrier worked the fields all over the area. It came near us a few times and one of them was sufficient for some photos. A red-tailed, and several red-shouldered hawks were in the trees. All were very shy.
Great egrets were all over, as usual and one great blue heron was seen. A lone cormorant flew by. Several black phoebes posed for portraits.
The water in the feeder channels was very glassy and had wonderful reflections of the beautiful sky. A moderate number of dragonflies were around and a lot of them were mating.
