A first clear, mostly sunny day after a week of several rainy days. It was so good to get out into the wildlife area and breathe the clean air, take in the green, and look for things to photograph. Although there were several raptors, most of the hawks were too far away and mostly with strong back-light, so no joy there. One exception: the usual great horned owl nest is still occupied and, although shaded, still produced a nice image. The show-stopper was the unexpected treat of seeing a bulk carrier moving up the Sacramento Shipping Channel as we reached the farthest point east in the bypass. Wow! what a sight! Only the superstructure of the vessel was visible above the levee.
